Chanted Meditations
Overview
Chanted meditations (pujas): The word puja is Sanskrit for offerings. A Puja combines chanting and visualization with meditation.
Pujas are a special method for ensuring success in our meditation by purifying negativity, accumulating merit, and receiving blessings.
Everyone is welcome, and there is no charge.
There is a daily program of pujas at the Center at 1700 S. College, Fort Collins. Visit the online calendar for details.
Puja Descriptions
Heart Jewel ~ is the essential practice of Kadampa Buddhism, in which offerings and requests are made to Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of this tradition. This puja is about 45min, 15min of which is meditation.
Wishfulfilling Jewel ~ is an extended version of Heart Jewel. Although, this is a Tsog Puja during which we make food offerings (so if you come to a Tsog Puja bring an offering such as candy, fruit, juice etc.) This puja is about 45 min.
Tara Puja ~ helps us to increase our connection to Mother Tara and receive her blessings. Tara is a female Buddha of wisdom whose swift actions help us to overcome problems quickly. This puja is about 45min.
Medicine Buddha Puja ~ Medicine Buddha is a Buddha Doctor whose function is to release living beings from outer and inner sickness by bestowing blessings upon them. This puja is about 45 min.
Lama Chopa ~contains all of the essential practices of the stages of the path to enlightenment. The essence of Lama Chopa is to develop strong conviction that our Spiritual Guide is a Buddha, to make prostrations offerings and request to him, and then receive his profound blessings. Lama Chopa is a Tsog Puja and last about 1hour 30min.
Prayers for World Peace ~ During this puja we make prayers and dedications for all war and conflict in the world to quickly cease and for all living beings to be able to live in peace and harmony together. We make these prayers through the practice of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. This puja is about 30 min.
Mahayana Precepts ~ The essence of this practice is to take eight precepts and to keep them purely for a period of twenty-four hours. By doing this practice again and again we acquaint ourself with the practice of moral discipline and thereby make our human life meaningful. This puja is about 30 min.
Kangso ~ This is an extensive practice of making offerings and requests to the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugdan for spiritual protection. Dorje Shugdan always helps, guides, and protects pure and faithful practictioners by granting blessings, increasing their wisdom, fulfilling their wishes, and bestowing success on their virtuous activities.
Purification ~ This is a special practice in which we purify our negative karma by engaging in the practice of ‘The Mahayana Sutra of the Three Superior Heaps’. During the practice we make prayers and prostrations to the 35 Confession Buddhas (Buddhas who have special power to help us purify our negativities).
Powa ~ Countless living beings die every day. After spending a short time in the Bardo state they take rebirth in one of the realms of samsara. In Powa, we make prayers and practice Transference of Consciousness so they may be reborn in the pure land of a Buddha.
