In these classes, we are exploring and practicing the instructions presented in The Oral Instructions of Mahamudra, by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, an extraordinary book that reveals the uncommon practice of Tantric Mahamudra of the Ganden Oral Lineage.

Starting with the practice of the preliminaries and then progressing along the actual meditation practices of Mahamudra, these classes help us to gain a clear understanding and experience of the steps we need to accomplish the profoundly blissful minds of Highest Yoga Tantra.

Each HYT practice class will engage in the prayers The Hundreds of Deities of the Joyful Land According to Highest Yoga Tantra and a guided meditation.

Every day we remember the extraordinary kindness of Venerable Geshe-la, our Root Guru and Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition, but on this auspicious day, with minds of rejoicing and gratitude, we will offer him our faith through using the special prayer Request to the Holy Spiritual Guide Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso from his Faithful Disciples and collecting our Guru’s name mantra in a one-day retreat.

Four guided sessions based on the teachings of the 2023 Southwest Dharma Celebration.

Gain experience of the meaning of relying upon the Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden, with the daily Kadampa practice of Heart Jewel. Using the teachings given by our Western National Spiritual Director Gen Kelsang Rigpa, at the 2023 Southwest Dharma Celebration, we will meditate on the methods to receiving Dorje Shugden’s special care, blessings and protection.

We can spend two days with Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara – “Mahakaruna” – the nature of Buddha’s great compassion, making exquisite offerings, praises, and prostrations and thereby accumulate huge merit, purify vast negativity for ourselves and others and receive the most powerful blessing to propel ourselves swiftly along our path to enlightenment.

Each day begins with an early morning ceremony of taking the Mahayana Precepts, eight precepts of pure moral discipline and fasting. The precepts ceremony is followed by three retreat sessions of the beautiful chanted prayers “Drop of Essential Nectar,” which include prostrations. While the second day can be accompanied by a full fast, this is not compulsory.
