Our Sunday morning classes will offer you the full sequence of Lamrim meditations over the course of 2021. Each month a different part of the Lamrim sequence is explored. Taught by Resident Teacher Trina Gunther, each class includes: a preliminary meditation to reduce distractions and quiet the mind followed by a short chanted prayer, the presentation of a Lamrim meditation including guided meditation, and an opportunity for questions.
In the Foundation Program, we engage in the systematic study of key Buddhist texts in order to gain a deep and lasting understanding and experience of the spiritual path, as well as an authentic confidence as a meditator and practitioner. These study classes also help us to become part of a community of practitioners who are sincerely putting the teachings into practice.
With weekly reading assignments from the text, as well as commentary, discussions and meditations on the week’s readings, these study classes create the conditions for us to develop deep inner experience of the teachings.
Wishfulfilling Jewel is a special practice for developing compassion, wisdom, and spiritual strength by relying on the Wisdom Buddha Je Tsongkhapa, and for overcoming obstacles and difficulties in our meditation (Dharma) practice by relying on the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden.
These classes are suitable for beginners, as well as those with an established meditation practice. Each class includes meditation, a teaching, discussion and opportunity to ask questions.
In this transference of consciousness, through concentration, compassion, faith, prayers, and mantras the participants assist in directing the consciousness of the recently deceased directly to the Pure Land, where they will be free from suffering and experience true happiness forevermore.
A Dharma Protector is an emanation of a Buddha or Bodhisattva whose main functions are to avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent practitioners from attaining spiritual realizations, and to arrange all the necessary conditions for their practice.
Dorje Shugden is a Dharma Protector, which means he specializes in helping us keep our minds off delusions and on Dharma. One way he does this is by helping us transform all appearances into the spiritual path, opening our wisdom eyes so that we know what to do with each situation as it arises, generating Dharma minds such as renunciation, compassion, or wisdom.
Here in our troubled world, what could be more helpful right now than getting better at love?
This challenge is a great opportunity to develop and strengthen our loving kindness, and to improve our meditation and spiritual practice. Each day we will engage in a meditation that warms our heart a bit more, based on the book The New Eight Steps to Happiness by Geshe Keslang Gyatso. These meditations transform our life - they improve our relationships - and they contribute to peace and healing in our world.
One of our biggest fears is our own death. Both mysterious and uncertain, we often try not to think about it. But what if we could know what will happen to us, and how to transform this experience into profound spiritual benefit for ourselves and others?
The essence of Highest Yoga Tantra meditation practice is to transform the experience of our death into a pure experience of Buddhahood. In this workshop we will learn about Buddha’s teachings on the death process, and how we can learn the precious meditations of Tantra that transform this transition.
Due to the unusual global situation, the entire 2021 Kadampa Summer Festival including the Highest Yoga Tantra empowerments of Heruka and Vajrayogini will be streamed online. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the summer festival and especially the Highest Yoga Tantra empowerments from your own locality.
This is a special practice of relying upon our Spiritual Guide as a Buddha and making praises and requests, but it also contains beautiful essential instructions on all the stages of the path to enlightenment and training the mind, as well as both the generation stage and completion stage of Highest Yoga Tantra.
We also make specific prayers for our friends, family members, Sangha, and others who are suffering or have died. This practice includes a tsog (food) offering which you can virtually engage in through your imagination.
